Please pray for tonight’s Gospel Presentation!

Tonight, after several months of translating and studying the Ten Commandments with our youth through the Study “The Righteous Shall Live by Faith” we our on our last study. Last week was on the topic of The Law, and this week we conclude with Grace.

I cannot express how critical this study is to our youth in this moment.
I’m not even done translating it for tonight, but I needed to stop to ask you for your prayers!

We have several youth that are not believers. It is in moments like this that the devil often keeps them away.
Please pray for their salvation.

I make no claims to be an eloquent teacher, so please pray that the Holy Spirit will work through this weak vessel.

Would you take a moment to pray right now?

Yesterday I went with Lucio to the public silent auction decreed by the city of Perugia where several plots of land were being sold to the highest bidder, including plot number 14, which happens to be across the street from our church building.

Of course neither of us felt particularly comfortable, since we had never done anything like that before, and we realized what a critical step it was for the life of  the church.

It reminded a bit of high school exams in Italy…the commission on one side of the able, chatting away, not particularly concerned by the passing of time, while the people on the other side (us) were quite nervous about the outcome.

In the meantime, back at the church, the team from Summit Baptist Bible Church was praying.

At first they told us that we were the only ones bidding on the land, even though we had been told differently.  As a church Sunday we decided to offer as high a bid as we could afford, which was a significant amount, though quite lower than the value of the land.  The agreement on the amount was unanimous, for which we were praising God.  But we wondered why God would allow us to bid so much money if we were the only ones bidding for the land.

When they brought up our lot instead there were was one other bidder.  When the first bid was read, we sat back in amazement, as we had outbid them only by a 1,400 euro!  Only God could have orchestrated this outcome, and we realize how critical the prayers of God’s people in Perugia and around the world were to the result.  When we announced the good news in church last night people roared with applause and praise to God!

Now there is only one step left that would assure us this property.  The Archeology department will have to make sure that there are no buried Etruscans beneath the land. Pray that we can soon own the land and that there are no ruins of historical value under the surface.  More likely, they will find buried cars, since there are several mechanics in the area.

us threeOnce again we are humbled by God’s grace and mercy.  Once again we are reminded that the Centro Evangelico Battista is God’s vision, not ours.  We are reminded of what Jesus said: “apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

Thank you for being a part of this vision through your prayers and giving.  Pray that we can utilize this gift in ways that will further God’s vision and honor Him.

A Future Worth Building Together

18 And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me.  So they said, “Let us rise up and build.”   Then they set their hands to this good work.  (Nehemiah 2:18 NKJV)

Nehemiah’s words are a great reminder of why we do what we do.   As we embark on the journey of parenthood, we realize how important it is to leave a lasting legacy to our son.  More than anything, we want him to experience with us the blessings of serving God where we are called and to capture the significance of a life lived for God, just as our parents taught us.

You probably felt the same way when you committed your family or church family to join us on this journey in reaching the Italian people with the Gospel message through your financial sacrifice and prayers.  We praise God that the fruit of the investment of many is reaping dividends we could not have imagined only ten years ago.

A Vision for the Future…short term opportunities, long term goals

1. Baptisms

When Tanya shared Christ with her classmate Eleonora just a few years ago, who would have imagined the impact?  Eleonora was baptized last year.

On February 20th, 2011, Eleonora’s mother Daniela and younger sister Beatrice will be baptized with two other people!

2. Outreach Events

  • In mid-January we celebrated 30 years of broadcasting Radio Luce. People came out from the community and heard the presentation of the Gospel.
  • For the third time, our youth and singles will be hosting a Valentine’s Banquet on February 11th where couples can bring their unbelieving friends.  This year we had to limit it to fifty couples because the demand has become so great!
  • We also will be hosting our third soccer tournament outreach in mid-June.

3. Church Planting

Many of you may remember the church planting vision we’ve been casting since 2003 when we first started our deputation. Our desire is to equip a generation of church planters to reach Umbria with the Gospel.  This vision is far from dead.

In our first pastor’s retreat with our first Italian pastor we laid the foundation for where to go from here. Having a radio station and a daily television program for over thirty years has sown a seed that we pray will soon be harvested.

Pray for us as my parents’ dream since 1973 starts to become a reality!

As you can see, the vision moves forward!  We can only give credit to God for what He is doing and thank Him for allowing us to be a part of it.
